CII explains what happens if husband says 'talaq' in joke
CII clarifies that divorce happens even if given in joke.
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) –Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) has clarified that divorce happens even if given in joke.
A meeting of standing committee of National Assembly on law and justice held under the chair of Riaz Fatyana. CII supported law making on divorces and inheritance according to the sects.
To this, Law Minister Farogh Naseem questioned what should be the punishment for this offence. Qibla Ayaz replied that CII has just put a suggestion and did not finalized punishment, however it can give its suggestions regarding punishment too if law ministry agrees.
Naseem said this will lead to corrupt practices by police. The committee adjourned the divorce bill till next meeting.
Member Assembly Mehmood Bashir Virk questioned can divorce happen in joke. CII said yes divorce happens even if given while joking. Qibla Ayaz said men also feel ashamed after giving divorce to their women.
Law Minister said if giving divorce is a crime in Sharia then he will support this law but if it is not a religious crime then we must refrain from such acts.
Dr Qibla Ayaz said Hazrat Umer (RA) called divorcing an offence to which Naseem said we must follow the rules from pious caliphate.
